LAS VEGAS, N.V. - History was made at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Feb. 17, as for the first time ever, the Harlem Globetrotters battled Dennis Rodman’s Bad Boy All-Stars. The Globetrotters proved too much for Rodman’s crew, as Willie Shaw’s 22 points led the Globetrotters to a 64-44 victory. Gordon Malone chipped in with 18 points for the Globetrotters. The challenge was presented to the Globetrotters by Rodman during a December press conference at the Orleans Arena, in which Globetrotter Chairman Mannie Jackson stated that the goal was to “show Dennis and basketball fans how much fun the game can be and how the game should be played.” Rodman, who won five NBA Championships and two Defensive Player of the Year awards, and led the NBA in rebounds a record seven consecutive years, played 30 minutes in the game and grabbed eight rebounds, had three assists and did not score. Known for his outrageous antics both on and off the court during his NBA career, he credits his agent Darren Prince, CEO of Prince Marketing Group for securing the deal and keeping his post-NBA marketing image relevant.
